Mr. Abdulraheem Ali Al-Shawthabi <\/strong>was awarded a PhD degree for his dissertation titled, \u201cMultisensory Learning and Recalling Styles and their Relationship to Speaking Proficiency: A Case Study of Yemeni EFL University Students<\/strong>,\u201d<\/em> which was submitted to Department of English Language Curricula and Teaching Methods,<\/strong> Faculty of Education<\/strong> – Sana\u2019a University<\/strong>. The PhD dissertation defense was held on Tuesday, October 21, 2025<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The PhD Viva-Voce Committee, which was formed based on a resolution issued by the Post-Graduate Studies and Scientific Research Council, consisted of the following members:<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

The dissertation aimed to<\/strong> investigate the relationship<\/strong> between sensory learning styles (auditory and visual), sensory recalling<\/strong> styles (mental speech\/inner voice and mental imagery), and English-speaking proficiency<\/strong> among EFL students in university English departments.<\/p>\n

Key findings of the research included:<\/p>\n

  • A statistically significant difference<\/strong> between the mean scores of the visual sensory learning style and the auditory sensory learning style, favoring the visual learning style<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
  • A statistically significant correlation<\/strong> between the auditory sensory learning style and speaking proficiency.<\/li>\n
  • A high, statistically significant correlation<\/strong> between the sensory recalling<\/strong> style (mental speech\/inner voice<\/strong>) and speaking proficiency.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    The dissertation <\/strong>presented several key recommendations<\/strong>, including:<\/p>\n

    • Reinforcing the development of inner speech<\/strong> (mental speech) through targeted training strategies.<\/li>\n
    • Considering the role of the learning environment<\/strong> and the flexibility of learning styles<\/strong> within the overall learning experience.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

      \u00a0<\/strong>The PhD dissertation<\/strong> was examined and recommended by the Viva-Voce Committee for acceptance<\/strong> and approval<\/strong>. The PhD defense<\/strong> was attended<\/strong> by a number of academics, researchers, interested students, the candidate\u2019s colleagues, and family members.<\/p>\n
