Mr. Ahmed Monnssar Murshed Mohammed Al-Dhubaibi <\/strong>was awarded a PhD<\/strong> degree in Applied Linguistics <\/strong>for his dissertation titled: The Use of Technology in English Language Teaching, Department of English, Faculty of Arts & Humanities, Sana’a University: Problems and Solutions<\/em><\/strong>, which was submitted to the Department of English Language and Literature, Faculty of Arts and Humanities \u2013 Sana\u2019a University. The dissertation defense was held on Tuesday, February 10, 2026<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The PhD Viva-Voce Committee, which was formed based on a resolution issued by the Graduate Studies and Scientific Research Council, consisted of the following:<\/p>\n

The dissertation aimed to:<\/p>\n

  • Analyze the current state of technology use in teaching English.\u200e<\/li>\n
  • Identify the gap between theoretical awareness of educational technology and its \u200epractical implementation.\u200e<\/li>\n
  • Determine the challenges hindering technology integration, such as weak \u200einfrastructure and insufficient training.\u200e<\/li>\n
  • Assess the readiness of instructors and students to use modern technologies.\u200e<\/li>\n
  • Propose practical and applicable solutions to enhance technological integration.\u200e<\/li>\n
  • Develop a scientific framework to measure the level of technology integration in \u200ehigher education.\u200e<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    The study yielded several key findings summarized as follows:<\/p>\n

    • There is a clear gap between theoretical awareness of the importance of technology \u200eand its actual classroom implementation.\u200e<\/li>\n
    • Limited resources and inadequate administrative support significantly restrict \u200eeffective technology use.\u200e<\/li>\n
    • While instructors possess general technological knowledge, they lack systematic \u200epractical training.\u200e<\/li>\n
    • The developed frameworks proved effective in measuring and guiding levels of \u200etechnological integration.\u200e<\/li>\n
    • Educational improvement is possible even with limited resources if clear and practical \u200estrategies are adopted.\u200e<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

      Scholarly Contribution: Innovative Frameworks<\/p>\n

      The researcher made an original academic contribution by developing three integrated frameworks:<\/p>\n

      1. The Developed Ecological Framework (Three Levels)<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

        A multi-level model explaining technology integration beyond traditional micro-level approaches, including:<\/p>\n

          \n
        • Individual Level: Focuses on students\u2019 and instructors\u2019 skills and readiness.<\/li>\n
        • Institutional Level: Encompasses resources, infrastructure, and administrative support.<\/li>\n
        • Systemic Level: Addresses educational policies and regulations.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

          1. The Practical Implementation Framework (Five Dimensions)<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

            A model linking theory to practice through clear implementation steps: Planning, Training, Implementation, Monitoring, and Evaluation<\/p>\n

            1. The Scientific Framework for Measuring Technology Integration (Three Indicators)<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

              A comprehensive measurement system combining:<\/p>\n

              • Quantitative indicators: Measuring the extent of technology usage.<\/li>\n
              • Qualitative indicators: Assessing the quality of integration and user experience.<\/li>\n
              • Interpretive indicators: Analyzing relationships among influencing factors.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

                These frameworks provide a comprehensive scientific and practical foundation for improving technology integration in higher education.<\/p>\n

                In light of these findings, the researcher recommended the following:\u200e<\/p>\n

                • Enhancing infrastructure.\u200e<\/li>\n
                • Providing systematic teacher training.\u200e<\/li>\n
                • Adopting supportive policies.\u200e<\/li>\n
                • Implementing gradual execution plans.\u200e<\/li>\n
                • Conducting future studies to expand and refine these frameworks.\u200e<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

                  The dissertation defense was attended by a number of academics, researchers, and specialists, students, colleagues, and the researcher\u2019s family.<\/p>\n
