Ms.<\/strong> Hana\u2019a Badr Aldeen Al-Harazi <\/strong>was awarded a Master’s degree in the major of Geomorphology and Natural Environment with an average of (Excellent<\/strong>) and a grade of (95%)<\/strong> for her thesis titled ” Flood Disasters in the Central Part of Wadi Hadramout Basin Using Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Remote Sensing<\/strong>,” which was submitted to Department of Geography and Geoinformatics, Faculty of Arts and Humanitarian – Sana\u2019a University. The defense was held on Saturday, February 14, 2026<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

The MA Viva-voce Committee, which was formed based on a resolution issued by the Post-Graduate Studies and Scientific Research Council, consisted of the following:<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

The study aimed to:<\/strong><\/p>\n

    \n
  • Analyze the climatic and morphometric characteristics of the central Wadi Hadramout basin.<\/li>\n
  • Identify the primary environmental drivers behind recurring flood events.<\/li>\n
  • Evaluate the impact of flooding on both natural ecosystems and human infrastructure.<\/li>\n
  • Develop digital runoff estimation maps to predict future flow volumes.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    The study <\/strong>reached the following main findings<\/strong>:<\/p>\n

      \n
    • The basin\u2019s unique geographical location is a primary driver of high-velocity flooding.<\/li>\n
    • Unregulated urban expansion and weak infrastructure significantly exacerbate flood risks.<\/li>\n
    • The study quantified significant environmental changes, recording a flood impact area of approximately 527 km\u00b2 in 2008<\/strong> and 98 km\u00b2 in 2015<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
    • The southern sectors of the study area were identified as the most high-risk zones for future disasters.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

      The study <\/strong>concluded with several important recommendations<\/strong>, most notably:<\/p>\n

        \n
      • Implementation of advanced forecasting systems to mitigate risk.<\/li>\n
      • Continued use of GIS and Remote Sensing<\/strong> for real-time monitoring.<\/li>\n
      • Construction of dams and barriers to regulate water flow.<\/li>\n
      • Launching community education initiatives regarding flood safety and disaster preparedness.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

        The thesis was examined and recommended by the MA Viva-Voce Committee for acceptance and approval. The defense was attended by a number of academics, researchers, students, and interested individuals, in addition to the candidate\u2019s colleagues and family members.<\/p>\n
