Mr. Mohammed Najeeb Qaed Abdullah Al-Banna\u200e <\/strong>was awarded a PhD<\/strong> degree in Microbiology <\/strong>with distinction for his dissertation titled: Molecular Characterization of Campylobacter Jejuni Isolated from Local and Imported Chicken Samples in Sana\u2019a City, Yemen\u200e<\/em><\/strong>, which was submitted to the Department of Biological Sciences, Faculty of Science\u2013Sana\u2019a University. The dissertation defense was held on Tuesday, May 12, 2026\u200e.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The PhD Viva-Voce Committee, which was formed based on a resolution issued by the Graduate Studies and Scientific Research Council, consisted of the following:<\/p>\n

The dissertation aimed to:<\/p>\n

    \n
  • Isolate, identify, and characterize Campylobacter jejuni bacteria from local and imported chicken samples in Sana\u2019a City using molecular techniques<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    The study yielded several key findings summarized as follows:<\/p>\n

      \n
    • The prevalence rate of Campylobacter jejuni in the food chain in Sana\u2019a City was moderate.<\/li>\n
    • The researcher successfully discovered four new bacterial strains and documented them in the international gene bank under the designation Al-Bana M N H1-H4..<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

      In light of these findings, the researcher recommended the following:<\/p>\n

        \n
      • Expanding studies across Yemen to provide comprehensive data on bacterial prevalence, antibiotic resistance, and associated risk factors.<\/li>\n
      • Focusing on molecular techniques in future studies and investigating the relationship between human infection and areas where birds, particularly poultry, are present.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

        The dissertation defense was attended by a number of academics, researchers, and specialists, students, colleagues, and the researcher\u2019s family.<\/p>\n
