Symposium at Sana’a University’s Water and Environment Center Discusses Zionist Ambitions on Arab Water Resources _ Sana’a University

The Water and Environment Center (WEC) at Sana’a University organized today a scientific and intellectual symposium titled “Zionist Ambitions and Aggressions on Arab Water Resources.” The event was held as part of the “Academics Toward Al-Quds” symposium series, with the participation of a distinguished group of academics, researchers, postgraduate students, and specialists.
In his remarks, Prof. Mohammed Ahmed Al-Bukhaiti, Sana’a University Rector, affirmed the university’s commitment to continuing the organization of specialized scientific and research symposiums that contribute to raising academic awareness of central Arab issues. He stressed the university’s role in advancing scientific research and serving the causes of the nation, foremost among them the Palestinian cause and Arab water security.
He highlighted the importance of shedding light on the challenges facing water resources in the Arab region and addressing them from a scientific and research-based perspective, reflecting the responsibility of academic institutions to analyze strategic issues in line with internationally recognized scientific standards.
Prof. Al-Bukhaiti noted that Sana’a University is working to empower its faculties and research centers to regularly address key issues—each within its field of specialization—thereby strengthening the university’s academic presence and enriching research output that contributes to improving international university rankings.
The symposium was attended by Prof. Ibrahim Al-Muta’a, Vice Rector for Academic Affairs, and was moderated by Prof. Zaid Al-Warith, the Rector’s Assistant for Scientific and Research Centers’ Affairs.
The symposium included four scientific working papers, as follows:
• The First Paper: Titled “Water Wars in the Arab Region and the World,” presented by WEC Director Dr. Taha Al-Weshali. It addressed water-related conflicts in the Arab region and the world, highlighting the conflict in the Jordan River basin and the impact of water on regional conflicts.
• The Second Paper: Titled “Water Deprivation Warfare: Using Water as a Tool for Control and Displacement,” presented by Dr. Abdulrahman Salah. It reviewed the historical and political dimensions of controlling water resources and the water reality in the Palestinian territories, especially in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip.
• The Third Paper: Titled “Israeli Ambitions in Lebanese Water: Sovereignty Challenges and Needs,” presented by Lebanese researcher Maha Jammoul from the Consultative Center for Studies and Documentation in Lebanon. It discussed the challenges related to Lebanese water resources in light of regional conflicts.
• The Fourth Paper: Titled “The Ecology of the Israeli Aggression on the Gaza Strip,” presented by Dr. Yousef Al-Makhrafi. It addressed the environmental, geographical, economic, and health impacts of conflicts and their effect on natural resources and the environment in general.
The symposium included in-depth academic discussions and interventions from participants, enriching its themes and reflecting a high level of scholarly engagement and research interest in environmental and water issues of regional and international significance.
This symposium comes within Sana’a University’s broader orientation toward strengthening scientific research and documenting academic activities that serve national and regional priorities.
