I. Education (Graduate Studies)
Since 1999, the WEC has introduced a range of educational programs and activities, encompassing advanced diploma programs, as well as MA and PhD programs specializing in water and environmental fields. It also conducts programs and activities designed to enhance the skills of its affiliates and bridge the disparity between educational outputs and the demands of the labor market. Given its comprehensive approach, addressing technical, economic, social, political, and legal aspects, the WEC holds substantial significance for the Yemeni government in tackling water scarcity and management complexities and challenges.
Diploma/MA Program in Integrated Water Resources Management:
The MA program in Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) offered by the WEC was launched in 2004 in collaboration with Wageningen University. In 2013, the program underwent a thorough review and comprehensive update, incorporating a wide range of globally pertinent topics, including the impact of climate change on water resources, water sector dynamics, and water security issues. Emphasizing critical and innovative thinking geared towards resolving water and environmental problems, the program integrates various disciplines such as agriculture, sciences, social sciences, gender studies, hydrogeology, and other pertaining areas with water and environmental management principles to foster comprehensive sustainable urban and rural development.
The program equips students with the skills to develop and contribute practical solutions to water security challenges and environmental issues. It provides a comprehensive set of curriculum objectives and expected competencies that students will acquire upon graduation. Offered in both Arabic and English, the program spans a duration of two years (for further details, refer to the WEC’s brochure or website).
