A seminar was held at the Water and Environment Center (WEC), Sana\u2019a University, within the Program of Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM), to discuss the proposal for M.Sc. research submitted by researcher Rawa Abdulqawi Ghanem, on Monday, October 27, 2025.
\nDuring the seminar, the researcher presented a detailed overview of her thesis project entitled:
\n\u201cA Comprehensive Feasibility Assessment (Technical, Environmental, Economic, and Social) of Brackish Water Desalination in Marib Governorate”.
\nIn her presentation, the researcher reviewed the current situation of water resources in Marib Governorate, highlighting the scarcity of rainfall that causes water salinity and the urgent need to address this issue through available technologies such as desalination. She also outlined other research objectives, including studying the environmental, economic, and social aspects that will be analyzed. The study comes in the context of growing interest in finding sustainable solutions to the water scarcity crisis, which is one of the major challenges facing Yemen.
\nThe session featured scientific discussions among the supervisory committee and attendees, including faculty members and postgraduate students. The discussion focused on the study\u2019s methodology, mechanisms for assessing economic feasibility, and the environmental and social impacts of desalination in Marib Governorate.
\nParticipants emphasized the importance of continuing research in this field as part of national efforts toward more sustainable management of water resources\u2014especially in areas facing increasing water stress, such as Marib Governorate.
\nThis seminar is part of the postgraduate and research programs at WEC, Sana\u2019a University, which focus on producing applied research that addresses community needs, particularly in areas related to water security, water quality, and improving access to safe and sustainable water sources in Yemen.<\/p>\n
