(WEC)

The Water and Environment Center (WEC) stands as the premier center for academic inquiry and research in Yemen, dedicated to water and environmental studies. It offers comprehensive and high-quality knowledge with a focus on addressing present and future water issues at local, regional, and global scales.

As the pioneering educational center in the region specializing in water studies, the WEC has embraced the “Integrated Water Resources Management” approach. This method ensures a distinguished methodological framework for obtaining the highest levels of expertise, skills, and knowledge required for the present and future workforce engaged in the water sector. In addition to education and training, the WEC conducts rigorous scientific and applied research, facilitates information dissemination through publication services, and fosters connectivity among specialists. Furthermore, the Center serves as a focal point for networking, partnerships, resource mobilization, and knowledge exchange.

Our Mission

The WEC aims to disseminate knowledge, conduct applied research, and foster practical and community capacities essential for addressing the major challenges within the water and environmental domains in Yemen, the region, and the world beyond.

Our Aims:

  1. To supply the water and environment sector with the required expertise and practical solutions by offering high-quality educational programs and training courses.
  2. To enhance the development and coordinating management of water and environmental resources.
  3. To bolster and advance the water and environment sector through applied research and consultancy services.
  4. To provide access to knowledge and information through partnership networks, community engagement through discussions, forums, and events (such as seminars and workshops), as well as by ensuring open access to available data and information resources.

Establishment of the WEC

The establishment of the WEC was authorized by the University Rector’s Resolution No. (98) of 1998, initially functioning as a unit within the Faculty of Engineering at Sana’a University. Subsequently, in 2004, the Center was relocated to a purpose-built independent facility to enable the implementation of numerous research and academic programs and activities.
