The Community Center for Translation & Language Teaching (CCTLT) at Sana’a University hosted an intensive workshop on “Strategies for Writing and Preparing Literature Reviews” for graduate students. The workshop, held on October 16, 2024, was designed to empower researchers and enhance their research skills.
The four-hour workshop targeted graduate students in languages, translation, and the humanities from different Yemeni universities. Dr. Ibraheem Tagaddeen, Director of the Center, opened the session, emphasizing the importance of such workshops in equipping researchers with the necessary knowledge, tools, and strategies for preparing and writing literature reviews.
The interactive workshop, led by Dr. Abdul Hamid Ashuja’a, an expert in research methodology and an associate professor of applied linguistics and translation, focused on scientific research methods for writing theoretical frameworks and literature reviews in scientific research and dissertations. The session aimed to strengthen graduate students’ abilities to write appropriate research plans and produce outstanding dissertations in the fields of translation and languages, aligned with global best practices.
Literature reviews form a cornerstone of scientific research. They help students to identify knowledge gaps, build robust theoretical frameworks, and avoid the repetition of previous research. The workshop emphasized the importance of enhancing academic writing skills by training graduate students to write literature reviews in a clear and concise academic style that adheres to international standards.
This initiative aligns with the Center’s ongoing efforts to support scientific research in graduate programs at Sana’a University and other Yemeni universities. The Center organizes a series of training workshops to develop student skills in research methodology and dissertation writing, contributing to the improvement of research quality in Yemeni universities and raising their positions in global rankings.
The workshop attracted twenty graduate students from various government and private Yemeni universities. Participants noted the workshop’s immense value in developing their abilities to prepare theoretical frameworks and literature reviews in scientific research as many of them have had previously faced difficulties in writing literature reviews for their research works.
The program concluded with the distribution of certificates of participation to the trainees, who expressed their eagerness to attend future workshops within this comprehensive training package on preparing research and dissertations
