The Community Center for Translation and Language Teaching (CCTLT) at Sana’a University hosted a workshop on Sunday, January 12, 2025, focused on innovative strategies for teaching writing to English language learners. The workshop, titled “Unlocking Creativity: Innovative Strategies of Teaching Writing for Today’s English Learners,” was held under the patronage of the University Rector, Prof. Al-Kasem Mohammed Abbas.
The workshop, which was facilitated by Dr. Faisal Aldawli under the supervision of the Center Director, Prof. Ibraheem Tagaddeen, aimed to equip English language teachers with the skills and knowledge necessary to teach writing effectively using modern and engaging methods.
The workshop, which was attended by 35 teachers from the Center’s Language Teaching Department, addressed key topics including the importance of writing instruction, challenges faced by students in developing their writing skills, and effective ways to address these challenges through needs assessment and integrating writing into other classroom activities. Participants explored creative strategies to support students throughout the writing process, such as brainstorming, collaborative writing, and storytelling techniques to make writing more engaging. Emphasis was also placed on providing constructive feedback and fostering a positive learning environment that encourages student creativity and self-expression. Techniques like journaling and dialogue writing were also discussed to enhance critical thinking and self-reflection.
In the end, the participants expressed their appreciation for the Center’s efforts in organizing such professional development opportunities and showed their gratitude to the Center’s administration, the workshop facilitator, the Head of the Language Teaching Department, Mr. Noah Shoosha, and the organizing team for their contribution to enhancing teaching quality and the overall educational experience.
