A Seminar on MA Research Proposal in Translation Presented by Hamas Mohammed Abdo Qasim Al-Qadri

On Wednesday, Ramadan 19, 1446 Hijri, corresponding to March 19, 2025, the Seminar Committee, Department of Translation and Applications, CCTLT, held a seminar to discuss the MA research proposal in translation presented by the researcher, Hamas Mohammed Abdo Qasim Al-Qadri, entitled:

Challenges in Translating Business Abbreviations and Acronyms from English into Arabic: A Case Study of Senior Translation Students at Sana’a University

The Seminar Committee consisted of the following teaching staff:

  • Assoc. Prof. Ibraheem Tagaddeen

  • Assoc. Prof. Mujeeb Ali Qasim

  • Assist. Prof. Abduwadood Annuzaili

  • Assist. Prof. Faisal Al-Dawli

During the seminar, the researcher presented a detailed overview of her research proposal, outlining the research problem, objectives, questions, and research gap. She also emphasized the significance of her study, which focuses on analyzing the challenges faced by translators when translating business abbreviations and acronyms from English into Arabic. These challenges include variations in cultural and linguistic contexts and the absence of precise Arabic equivalents for certain English abbreviations and acronyms.

The research centers on a case study of senior students in the Department of Translation at the Faculty of Languages, Sana’a University, aiming to identify the issues they encounter in this domain and propose practical solutions to enhance their skills in translating business abbreviations and acronyms.

Then, the Seminar Committee discussed the elements of the research proposal and appreciated the researcher’s efforts. The committee affirmed that the research holds particular importance in light of the rapid developments in international trade and the growing demand for qualified translators capable of handling business abbreviations and acronyms with high proficiency.

The Seminar Committee investigated the research theoretical framework and proposed methodology, which includes an applied analysis of the senior students’ performance in translating business texts from English into Arabic.
