Department of Translation & Applications

About the Department

The Department of Translation and its Applications (DTA) at the Community Center for Translation and Language Teaching (CCTLT), Sana’a University, is the founding department of the CCTLT, which was established in 2004. Initially known as the Translation Unit, our department was established to fulfill the community’s need for translating documents between Arabic and various other languages.

At the DTA, we have two main units: the Translation Unit and the Postgraduate Studies and Training Unit. The Translation Unit is highly regarded in the Republic of Yemen as the premier provider of translation services. We offer comprehensive translation services for a wide range of documents from all languages into Arabic and vice versa. Our unit holds the distinction of being the only accredited entity by many public and private institutions.

Our work extends beyond document translation to include the translation of books from Arabic into other languages and vice versa. We have a successful track record of translating numerous books. The Translation Unit prides itself on its exceptional staff, which includes professors who are experts in translation and highly qualified translators.

In addition to translation services, the Translation Unit provides linguistic editing and proofreading services for research papers and scientific theses in both Arabic and English. We also regularly receive official visits from translation departments in other Yemeni government and private universities. These visits aim to familiarize students with our tasks and activities, offering them the chance to benefit from the expertise of our qualified staff.

Moving on to our Postgraduate Studies Unit, we offer a Master’s program in Translation as well as a Postgraduate Diploma in Translation program. To date, four batches have successfully graduated from the Master’s program, and twelve batches have completed the Vocational Higher Diploma in Translation. Moreover, the department offers a variety of professional training courses in specialized translation, translation technology and interpreting with a view to preparing translators efficiently for the labor market. The Postgraduate Studies and Training Unit is proud to have a competent and qualified academic staff specializing in various fields of translation studies.

Lastly, I would like to emphasize our commitment to meeting the community’s translation needs with the utmost professionalism and ethical standards. We constantly strive to keep up with technological advancements in the field of translation and offer a wide range of courses in different areas, including general, commercial, legal, and computer-aided translation.
