Given the growing global emphasis on English proficiency, especially in higher education, obtaining a standardized English language test such as TOEFL has become a common requirement worldwide, including Yemen and Sana’a University. As one of Yemen’s largest and most recognized public universities, Sana’a University is committed to implementing international quality standards and accreditation. Consequently, the university has mandated the TOEFL requirement for all postgraduate applicants to align with global best practices and elevate the quality of higher education.

The TOEFL preparation program is a prime example of this commitment, designed to enhance the English proficiency of postgraduate students at Sana’a University and other Yemeni institutions. Over the past decade, the CCTLT has dedicated significant efforts to developing and equipping a state-of-the-art learning environment tailored specifically for TOEFL preparation, utilizing the latest educational technologies and resources to cultivate all aspects of English language competency among students and empower them to successfully achieve TOEFL certification.

Fourth: Program Features
It is an intensive program utilizing the latest educational methods and employing modern teaching strategies based on active and collaborative learning strategies.
It equips learners with the necessary skills to pursue postgraduate studies at any Yemeni university and to be competitive in the job market.
Upon successful completion, learners will receive a Certificate of Proficiency in English issued by the University of Sana’a, a renowned educational institution in Yemen.

Sixth: Procedures for Enrollment and Obtaining the Proficiency Certificate
Given that the Proficiency Certificate signifies a high level of English proficiency, qualifying the holder for admission to any postgraduate program, this program commences at the pre-intermediate level. Therefore, applicants must adhere to the following conditions:

Applicants must undergo a placement test to ensure that they have passed the Beginner level, which consists of four courses.

If an applicant does not pass the Beginner level, they must enroll in the courses of that level until they qualify and then take the placement test again.

Upon passing the placement test, applicants will be placed according to their determined level. If they achieve an Intermediate level or above, they will be placed in that level.

The applicant must undergo a comprehensive exam covering all levels specified in the program.

The applicant will be awarded the certificate upon fulfilling all requirements.
Seventh: Program Activities

Tenth: Final Examination System for the English Proficiency (Local TOEFL) Program:
First: Students wishing to enroll in the program:

Applicants must undergo a placement test according to the CCTLT’s established system.

Upon passing the placement test, the applicant will be placed according to their determined level and is required to study the remaining courses specified in the program according to their specialization.

After successfully completing the specified program courses according to their specialization, the student will take the final proficiency exam.

The final proficiency exam scores for students enrolled in the program will be calculated based on the following weighting: 50% based on the grades obtained in the program courses and 50% based on the final proficiency exam score.
Second: Students wishing to take the final proficiency exam directly without enrolling in the program:

Students may take the final proficiency exam directly without enrolling in the program upon payment of the specified fee determined by the committee.

The final proficiency exam scores for students wishing to take the final proficiency exam directly without enrolling in the program will be calculated based on 100%.
Third: Required Passing Grade for the Final English Proficiency Exam:
The required passing grade for the final English proficiency exam is 65%. For postgraduate students (Doctoral program), the passing grade is 70%.
Certified Certificate Issued by the Program (Local TOEFL Certificate):

The certificate is issued by the Community Center for Translation and Language Teaching (CCTLT) at Sana’a University and bears the signatures of the authorized individuals as follows: the CCTLT Director (Committee Secretary), the University Rector (Deputy Chairman of the Committee), and the Deputy Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research (Committee Chairman).
