CCTLT Organizes Scholarly Webinar on “Translation in the Age of Digitalization” to ‎Mark International Translation Day 2025‎

The Community Center for Translation and Language Teaching (CCTLT) at Sana’a University ‎organized a virtual academic webinar titled “Translation in the Age of Digitalization” on ‎Thursday evening, October 2, 2025, via Zoom platform, in celebration of International ‎Translation Day. The event was held under the auspices of the University President, Prof. ‎Mohammed Al-Bukhaiti.‎
Prof. Ibraheem Tagaddeen, Director of the Center, inaugurated the webinar with a welcoming ‎address to the participants, including academics and students from various public and private ‎Yemeni universities. He emphasized the vital role of translation in today’s world, particularly in ‎light of the rapid transformations driven by digitization and globalization.‎
The event witnessed a remarkable academic turnout and wide participation from translation and ‎language teaching specialists across several universities. The number of participants on the Zoom ‎platform reached 138, with more than 1,100 viewers following the live broadcast via the Center’s ‎Facebook page, YouTube channel, and other social media platforms.‎
Eight scholarly papers were presented, addressing the challenges of translation in the context of ‎digital transformation and technological developments, especially the use of AI in translation ‎between Arabic and several foreign languages, including English, French, German, and Persian. ‎The speakers discussed key themes such as risk management in machine translation, the impact of ‎AI on translator training, and the challenges of translating cultural and dialectical nuances in the ‎digital age. The presentations were delivered according to the webinar’s agenda as follows:‎

 Dr. Idrees Al-Huraibi: “Artificial Intelligence and the Challenges of Translation between ‎Arabic and French” (French)‎
 Dr. Yahya Obaid Saleh Obaid: “Challenges of Translation between Arabic and Persian ‎Using Artificial Intelligence” (Persian)‎
 Rafid Al-Asar: “Artificial Intelligence and the Challenges of Translation between Arabic ‎and German” (German)‎

The webinar concluded with academic recommendations emphasizing the need to enhance the ‎integration of AI in translation practices taking into consideration the linguistic and cultural ‎specificities. The speakers also underscored the importance of developing translator-training ‎curricula that align with ongoing digital advancements and of sustaining research efforts in ‎translation studies and Arabic language development.‎
Participants commended the significance of the webinar in shedding light on the challenges and ‎implications of translation amid the accelerating waves of digitalization and globalization, ‎particularly the complexities associated with AI-driven translation between Arabic and major ‎world languages.‎
The Community Center for Translation and Language Teaching at Sana’a University annually ‎organizes such scholarly events to highlight the growing importance of translation in the modern ‎era, promote intercultural and intellectual exchange, advance the Center’s role in supporting ‎translation and Arabization efforts locally and regionally, and encourage scientific research in ‎translation and language teaching.‎
