Graduate Studies Unit

 

The Graduate Studies Unit at the Community Center for Translation & Language Teaching (CCTLT) was established as an independent unit in 2020. Before that, the postgraduate programs were run by the departments. Now, the Graduate Studies Unit is responsible for running and overseeing Graduate programs in the departments. The Master’s Program in Translation was finally approved in 2020, with four batches having graduated from this program. As for the Postgraduate Diploma in Translation program, 12 batches have graduated since its opening in 2007.

 

Aims of the Graduate Studies Unit

The Graduate Studies Unit aims at achieving the following goals:

  • Preparing highly qualified graduates in translation and language teaching to meet the requirements of the labor market, comprehensive development plans, and the needs of society.

  • Enhancing the quality of research conducted by graduate students by updating programs and curricula in coordination with the Quality Assurance Unit.

  • Encouraging students to conduct applied research in subjects relevant to contemporary translation and language teaching issues and challenges faced by translators in practical settings.

  • Developing the postgraduate students’ knowledge, theoretical concepts, practical skills, and innovative research excellence.

  • Developing the capabilities of graduate students in research methodologies and approaches in the fields of translation and language teaching.

 

Tasks and Responsibilities of the Graduate Studies Unit

  • Organizing and following up on applications for joining graduate programs in coordination with the General Administration of Graduate Studies at the office of the University Vice-Rector for Graduate Studies.

  • Following up on the registration of accepted students in academic programs and organizing their admission process with the Admissions and Registration Department at the office of the University Vice-Rector for Graduate Studies.

  • Monitoring student affairs, including deferrals and extensions, defining study tracks, assigning supervisors, and appointing Viva-Voce committees.

  • Preparing graduate lists and recommending them to the Department Council and Center’s Board of Director Council to approve student results and award them the grades they deserve at the end of each semester.

  • Managing course equivalencies and credit hours calculations for students.

  • Monitoring, updating, and developing the programs’ study plans according to quality assurance standards.

  • Responding to inquiries from students and academic departments regarding graduate studies.

  • Issuing documents related to the academic status of students.

  • Preparing publications related to graduate studies, including a postgraduate guide, University thesis guide, and statistics and studies related to graduate studies.
