The Spanish Language Program

Importance of the Program

Spanish is the official language of Spain and 22 other countries across Europe, Africa, Central America, South America, and North America. Recognized as a global living language, it is the most widely spoken Romance language, with approximately 567 million speakers. This ranks it as the world’s second most spoken language by total number of speakers, as reported by the Spanish Cervantes Institute in 2016.

Spanish is one of the official languages of the United Nations, the European Union, and numerous other international organizations. In addition, it is one of the main languages in various global sectors and companies. Spanish ranks as the third most used language on the World Wide Web.

The importance of the Spanish language is multifaceted. It aids individuals in enhancing their linguistic, cultural, and academic abilities, and it unlocks opportunities in the global labor market. With its rich literary, artistic, and historical heritage, the Spanish language broadens knowledge, fosters understanding of new cultures, and increases opportunities for cultural and commercial exchanges.

Recognizing its importance, the Community Center for Translation and Language Teaching (CCTLT) at Sana’a University has dedicated considerable effort to establishing a Spanish language unit. This unit provides a comprehensive, interactive educational program that aligns with current developments and covers the four essential skills: reading, writing, listening, and speaking. The program is designed for individuals interested in learning Spanish through high-quality courses delivered by highly qualified and experienced staff, thereby enhancing their engagement with Spanish-speaking communities.

This program and its chosen curriculum have been designed to meet the needs of students in accordance with the standards of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).
