Department Mission

Preparing and qualifying high-caliber dental graduates capable of providing distinguished medical services at international standards in diagnosis, treatment modalities, and relevant surgical interventions. It aims to foster an educational, academic, clinical, and research environment aligned with local and regional quality-assurance and accreditation standards, as well as community service.

Department Objectives

1. Developing and updating curricula and clinical scientific research skills continuously in periodontal and oral medicine education to keep pace with societal needs.
2. Providing postgraduate programs capable of educating and training students to become specialists in periodontics and oral medicine.
3. Encouraging scientific research and training in the field of dentistry by establishing effective educational relationships and partnerships with the community.

Academic Programs in the Department

Bachelor of Dental Surgery (B.D.S.)

Master of Clinical Dentistry (M.Clin.Dent.) in Oral Medicine

The Master of Clinical Dentistry (M.Clin.Dent.) in Oral Medicine is a three-year graduate program at the Faculty of Dentistry, Sana'a University, encompassing theoretical, clinical, and research modules. This program qualifies dental graduates to become professional oral medicine specialists capable of independently delivering comprehensive oral care to the community. It includes a mandatory research project where each candidate is trained to complete a specialized thesis, equipping them with the academic skills required to pursue further higher education.

Program Mission

The program is committed to graduating qualified oral medicine specialists equipped with the advanced knowledge, clinical skills, and core competencies by providing a stimulating learning, educational, and research environment aligned with the highest quality standards and contemporary instructional strategies.

Program Objectives

1. Applying foundational knowledge in basic medical and dental sciences, emphasizing systems and subjects directly related to oral health and function.
2. Describing common oral mucosal lesions accurately and managing their diverse therapeutic and treatment modalities.
3. Providing graduate students with the core knowledge and clinical skills required to manage oral diseases through the application of evidence-based dentistry.

Program Requirements

1. Passing all basic science subjects and core courses with the required passing grades.
2. Completing clinical training successfully and meeting the minimum clinical competency standards.
3. Submitting and defending a master's thesis based on the approved research project.

Master of Clinical Dentistry (M.Clin.Dent.) in Periodontics

The Master of Clinical Dentistry (M.Clin.Dent.) in Periodontics is a three-year graduate program conducted at the Faculty of Dentistry, Sana'a University, encompassing comprehensive theoretical, clinical, and research modules. This program qualifies dental graduates to become professional periodontists capable of independently delivering specialized periodontal care to the community. It includes a mandatory research project where each candidate is trained to complete a specialized thesis, equipping them with the academic and research skills required to pursue further higher education.

Program Mission

The program seeks to provide dental graduates seeking career advancement with advanced knowledge, critical understanding, and rigorous clinical training in periodontics and dental implantology, enabling them to deliver high-quality, specialized care to the community.

Program Objectives

1. Providing students with evidence-based comprehensive knowledge and advanced clinical skills in periodontics and dental implantology.
2. Applying problem-solving abilities and critical thinking as foundational elements in the clinical training of periodontics and dental implants.
3. Supplying the community with competent periodontists and implantologists who strictly uphold professional ethics and standards in clinical practice.

Program Requirements

Ph.D. in Oral Medicine

The Ph.D. program in Oral Medicine at the Faculty of Dentistry, Sana'a University, is the pioneering program of its kind in Yemen. The Faculty instituted this program in alignment with its strategic development and quality improvement plans, as well as to meet the aspirations of master’s degree holders seeking advanced higher education. The program is designed to enhance candidates' capabilities in scientific research methodologies, academic techniques, and clinical trials in the field of oral medicine, equipping them to become leading consultants or to pursue distinguished careers in university-level dental education. The program duration spans 3 to 4 years.

Program Mission

The PhD. program in Oral Medicine is dedicated to developing specialized consultants who possess advanced scientific knowledge, research competence, and clinical skills. It empowers graduates to deliver expert diagnostic and therapeutic interventions to maintain and restore oral tissues to their optimal health, function, and esthetic standards, effectively meeting labor market demands and serving the community.

Program Objectives

1. Providing students with a comprehensive and updated understanding of the foundational and clinical sciences relevant to oral medicine.
2. Training students to apply modern diagnostic tools and advanced technologies in the evaluation, diagnosis, and management of complex oral and orofacial conditions.
3. Enhancing candidates' capabilities to conduct independent, ongoing research in oral medicine, with a strong focus on evidence-based practice, academic writing, and contributing to scientific and clinical advancements in the field.

Program Requirements

1. Completing and defending a clinical doctoral thesis in the field of Oral Medicine.
2. Conducting a departmental seminar prior to scheduling the formal thesis defense.
3. Publishing at least one research paper in a peer-reviewed local journal.
4. Publishing at least one research paper in a peer-reviewed, internationally indexed journal.
