Faculty of Dentistry | SU
Dental education at the University of Sana’a was introduced by a University Council decision for the 1996–1997 academic year, establishing a Department of Dentistry within the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences. The program aimed to prepare qualified dentists to meet labor market needs and contribute to the development of healthcare services at the local and regional levels.
In collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO), the University developed the necessary studies and plans for establishing the Faculty, with the assistance of Prof. Kamal Abbas from the Faculty of Dentistry at the University of Khartoum. He contributed to establishing the Faculty’s academic and organizational foundations and assisted in selecting the initial academic staff.
During the 1997–1998 academic year, the organizational framework of the Faculty was completed, and the first cohort of 50 students was admitted. The program initially operated with limited academic staff and relied on international faculty members to support teaching across various dental disciplines. Teaching began with limited facilities and equipment and initially relied largely on the expertise and efforts of the available faculty members.
As interest in the Faculty grew and student enrollment increased, teaching facilities and resources were gradually expanded. In the 2001–2002 academic year, the University Council approved the separation of the Faculty of Dentistry from the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, establishing it as an independent faculty within the University of Sana’a.
To be a leading and distinguished faculty at the local and regional levels, committed to the implementation of academic accreditation standards.
The Faculty is committed to graduating highly competitive, developable professionals capable of meeting labor market needs and delivering community services. This is achieved within the framework of societal values and customs, through the ongoing development of educational programs, the advancement of scientific research, and the strengthening of continuing education mechanisms.
