Academic Programs

Bachelor of Biomedical Engineering

Biomedical Engineering is one of the newest engineering disciplines, emerging alongside the rapid advancement of modern medicine, which increasingly relies on highly sophisticated medical devices for diagnosis, treatment, and patient monitoring. Therefore, the involvement of specialists from disciplines beyond medicine became essential. These professionals combine engineering and medical knowledge and are responsible for designing medical devices with a high degree of efficiency. Whereas physicians were once solely responsible for diagnosis, treatment, and even pharmaceutical preparation, medical devices have now become indispensable partners in diagnosing diseases, providing treatment, and monitoring patients. Given the urgent need to develop advanced medical equipment and technologies that improve patient care and accelerate recovery, engineers have assumed a vital role in designing these devices. To do so effectively, they must also possess a sound understanding of medical sciences, including human anatomy, physiology, and related fields, in order to comprehend the functioning of biological systems and apply their engineering expertise to enhance medical technologies. This has created the need for biomedical engineers who possess interdisciplinary knowledge and are able to collaborate effectively with medical professionals, while recognizing that they are not intended to replace physicians or other healthcare specialists.
Biomedical Engineering serves as the link between medical sciences, physiological sciences, and engineering disciplines, in addition to related fields such as computer engineering, electrical engineering, and mechanical engineering. The discipline provides broad opportunities for innovation, development, and invention, enabling practical applications that improve human life. It applies engineering principles and expertise alongside medical knowledge to benefit society through the design and development of medical, diagnostic, therapeutic, and rehabilitative devices.
