Faculty of Engineering | SU
The Department of Chemical Engineering was established in 2025 and is located on the main campus of Sana'a University within the Faculty of Engineering. Chemical Engineering is one of the most important engineering disciplines required to advance both the conventional and strategic industrial sectors. It plays a vital role in resource conservation, waste treatment, and sustainability. The department integrates several fundamental engineering fields, including petroleum industries, manufacturing and processing industries, recycling, and environmental protection. From the first year of study, Chemical Engineering students receive a broad and diverse academic foundation that includes programming, mathematics, physics, computer science, and electronics, with particular emphasis on chemistry and an introduction to manufacturing and process industries.
Chemical engineering students acquire cognitive and practical skills that benefit them in their professional future. They gain the complete capacity and knowledge to prepare material and energy balances; analyze, design, and operate chemical plants; and control transport phenomena, phase equilibrium, and chemical reactions. They also develop the capability to design equipment in which chemical reactions take place to optimize productivity, as well as the ability to scale up a process from a small-scale laboratory experiment to a large-scale commercial industrial unit and production operations.
This diversity of knowledge contributes to equipping students with comprehensive skills that qualify them for the labor market, making the choice of the chemical engineering specialization a gateway to broad and varied career opportunities in the future. It enables them to build a successful career path and achieve an outstanding standard of living and social status. Furthermore, this specialization is considered one of the modern engineering disciplines witnessing rapid development at both local and international levels.
The first batch of students was admitted to the department in the academic year 1447 Hijri, corresponding to 2025-2026. Fifty students were received in the first year, and currently, students are admitted annually at an average rate of one hundred students.
