SANA’A – From January 12 to 14, 2026, the Department of Translation at the Faculty of Languages held defense sessions for Audiovisual Translation (AVT) projects completed by junior-level students. These projects represent a core component of the curriculum, designed to bridge the gap between linguistic theory and professional application.
The sessions featured the work of 64 students divided into 12 research and production teams. The projects focused on subtitling documentaries that explore forgotten historical cities across the Arab world and beyond, aiming to preserve their cultural and civilized heritage for a global audience through high-precision translation.
Under the supervision of course instructor Al-Shayma Al-Masoudi, students demonstrated advanced technical and linguistic competency. Utilizing specialized professional subtitling software, the teams managed complex workflows that included ensuring accurate cross-cultural communication; achieving seamless synchronization between audio, visual cues, and text; and adhering to international industry standards for readability and format.
Dr. Mujeeb Ali Qasim, Head of the Department of Translation, emphasized that these initiatives align with the Faculty’s vision to keep pace with the rapid digital transformation of the global translation market.
