Master’s Thesis Proposal Seminar on the Linguistic Landscape of Commercial Signage in Sana’a

Department of Arabic Language at the Faculty of Languages – Sana’a University, hosted a Master’s thesis proposal Seminar on Tuesday, October 28, 2025.
The proposal, submitted by Ms. Afnan Abdulrahman Mohammed Al-Khasheb, is titled: “The Linguistic Landscape of Commercial Signage in Sana’a: Sakhr Street, Bab Al-Salam, and University District as a Model.”
The research plan is supervised by Assoc. Prof. Khalid Abdulhaleem Al-Absi (Principal Supervisor) and Dr. Tariq Abdulhakeem Al-Wahbani (Co-Supervisor).
The seminar was attended by several faculty members from the Department. The candidate presented a comprehensive overview of the study’s objectives, significance, scientific methodology, theoretical framework, as well as the hypotheses and analytical tools to be employed.
Following an extensive academic discussion, the committee officially approved the research proposal. The committee highly praised the topic’s importance in studying the linguistic landscape and the deployment of language in the public sphere in Yemen, particularly in Sana’a, the Capital of Yemen.
The seminar was attended by academics, postgraduate students, and other interested individuals from the Faculty.
