The semi-final rounds of the Impromptu Speaking Competition, organized by the Department of Translation at the Faculty of Languages, began today, Monday, November 10, 2025.
The competition is designed to cultivate students’ skills in creative thinking, rapid idea generation and organization, and to hone their ability to construct a logical and cohesive speech within a short time frame. Participants are challenged to use correct and appropriate vocabulary and linguistic structures in a natural and spontaneous style.
Dr. Ruqayya Sharaf Al-Deen is overseeing the training and evaluating the performance of the contestants, and is responsible for selecting those who will advance to the final stage of the competition.
Dr. Sharaf Al-Deen praised the outstanding level demonstrated by the participants, particularly their ability to speak with fluency and continuity without hesitation. She noted that their performance reflects their quick wit and self-confidence, emphasising that such competitions contribute significantly to enhancing rapid thinking skills and breaking down the fear of public speaking.
This competition is part of a series of student activities organized by the Department of Translation, all aimed at:
- Developing students’ Impromptu Public Speaking skills.
- Strengthening their capacity for the logical organization of ideas and delivering a coherent discourse.
- Building self-confidence and managing anxiety during spontaneous speaking situations.
