A historical overview of the Department
The. department was established in 1973-1974 and the duration of study is (four years).
After successfully passing, the graduate is awarded a bachelor’s degree.
The section contains three sections:
1- Microbiology.
2- Botany – Chemistry
3- Biology
Objectives
Graduating scientifically qualified cadres in the fields of life sciences to contribute to the development of society.
Keeping pace with scientific and technical developments in the fields of biological sciences and introducing them into academic programs
Providing the student with theories, knowledge, basic and applied scientific skills in life sciences and related sciences that qualify him for scientific research and community service.
Providing a suitable research environment for faculty members and graduate students to encourage them to carry out scientific research by establishing and rehabilitating specialized research laboratories,
providing modern scientific periodicals, and encouraging them to publish the results of their scientific research locally and globally.
Providing scientific consultations, presenting research projects, and organizing workshops and training courses in various fields of biological sciences.
Graduates' fields of work
A graduate can work in the following fields: –
Schools, scientific institutes
universities as faculty members, researchers, and technicians.
Working in many ministries such as the Ministry of Agriculture – Livestock and Fisheries.
Laboratories of the Ministry of Public Health and Population, the Ministry of Oil and Mineral Resources, and the Ministry of Water and Sanitation.
National Authority for Environmental Protection
Public Authority for Consumer Protection –
Higher Authority for Standardization and Metrology
Meteorological Authority, the Geological Survey Authority
The Agricultural Research and Extension Authority.
Related research centres, such as the General Administration of Plant Protection
Agricultural Services Administration, – Seed Multiplication Center
Agricultural and veterinary quarantine outlets at airports and other ports.
Relevant Arab and international organizations
Teaching strategies & descriptions of how to use them
Lecture: Discussion / Tutorial: Short lecture / followed by discussion
Seminar: It is mainly used with small groups of students (20–30), in which they find better opportunities for discussion and participation in the teaching process.
Practical : Students perform laboratory experiments individually or in small groups
Feedback Learning: The student is individually assigned to take quick quizzes (test) or to do specific tasks such as web-based research, literature review, or homework (answering questions or solving problems) The teacher will provide them with correcting feedback.
Group Projects : Students work on a project in groups of 2 to 3 students. It is important to learn by doing, using results in a practical way and enhancing teamwork skills.
Field training: Every 2-3 students are assigned to carry out specific tasks in a real field entity such as factories, laboratories and various bodies related to the field of microbiology under the supervision of the field principle and academic supervisor.
Tab title Evaluation method and its description (in which courses are used and how often are they used)
Written exams: It is used in most courses
-Closed book style
-Format of the final exam for the theoretical part
-Format of the mid-term exam for the theoretical part. It must include all topics studied
Oral exams: It should be varied and include a short essay, multiple choice questions (MCQs) and other written assessment
It is used in field training courses as well as theoretical and laboratory courses.
Quick tests Quiz: Students are presented with pre-determined brief questions to be answered, most likely in the form of a written examination.
Practical test : They are used in courses, including practical parts
The student is given a weekly mark from the teacher based on his/her completion of each laboratory experiment.
Total scores are converted to an average.
Completion included the completion of the experiment and the preparation of reports.
Seminar evaluation: used in courses that involve seminars as a learning strategy.
Students’ work will be graded during the seminar, including: presentations and discussion.
Registration requirement
1- Required enrollment rates:
