Doctorate with honors by researcher Amira Al-Harithi from Sana’a University
Researcher Amira Ali Al-Harethi obtained a doctorate degree with honors from faculty of Science at Sana’a University, for her thesis entitled ‘Evaluation of the suppression effect of copper oxide and zinc oxide nanoparticles on potato late blight (Phytophthora infestans) in Yemen’.
The discussion and judging committee, headed by Dr. Saeed Al-Ghalbi, an internal examiner from Sana’a University, and the membership of Dr. Qais Abdullah, as a main supervisor, Dr. Adel Al-Eryani, an external examiner from Dhamar University, and Dr. Hala Al-Jubouri, a co-supervisor, praised the content of the thesis and the results reached by the researcher in finding solutions to the problem of late blight. , which infects potatoes in Yemen.
The committee considered the subject of the thesis to be one of the most important topics related to food security in Yemen, representing added scientific value, and a reference for the Microbiology Department. It noted the researcher’s efforts in completing the thesis, analyzing samples and conducting laboratory experiments in research centers in Yemen and Egypt, and seeking the assistance of a specialized company to reach accurate scientific results. It has a significant impact on the development of agricultural production.
The committee indicated that the researcher was able to find safe solutions through the use of the latest technical methods, “nanotechnology,” and the production of nanoparticles to control late blight in potato crops in Yemen.
The committee confirmed that the study is the first study at the level of Yemeni universities in which ‘nanotechnology’ is used through applied experiments, and is also the first specialized scientific research using this technology at Sana’a University through the College of Science, which seeks to conduct accurate scientific research to serve food security in Yemen.
