About the Center

The Protected Agricultural Environment Center (PAEC) is a training and research facility established in 2008, focusing on the field of protected agriculture. PAEC comprises specialized units dedicated to protected agriculture. The center includes a team of well-qualified faculty members and administrative staff. It is located within the Farm Building of the Faculty of Agriculture.

Center Interests

  • Non-Traditional Agriculture: Promoting innovative farming methods and practices.
  • Protected Environment Research: Addressing all aspects related to protected agriculture and environment.
  • Youth Training: Providing training for young men and women on starting small-scale businesses in non-traditional agriculture.
  • Seed Production: Focusing on the production of seeds suitable for protected environments.
  • Small-Scale Enterprise Support: Assisting small and medium enterprises by identifying and addressing their challenges.
  • Conducting Awareness Research and Training: Conducting research and providing training to promote awareness and to educate participants effectively.
  • Water Conservation: Offering training and capacity building to conserve water resources, particularly in the Sana’a basin.

Partnerships and Collaborations

PAEC has established strong relationships with various institutions, including:

  • UPM Potra University, Malaysia: PAEC has established collaboration with this university to facilitate training for Yemeni staff in Malaysia and hosted a visiting team from the university.
  • Ain Shams University, Egypt: PAEC has established a collaboration with the Center for Non-Traditional Agriculture, Faculty of Agriculture, hosting a visiting professor who provided training and introduced 12 strawberry varieties to the center, which have since been distributed to mountainous regions for cultivation.
  • Center of Arid Land Agricultural Research Institute: PAEC developed a relationship with the institute and the former Minister of Agriculture to enhance research and training efforts.

Future Projects

PAEC is currently preparing for two significant projects:

  • Hydroponics: Implementing hydroponic agriculture techniques in collaboration with the Center of Arid Land Agricultural Research Institute.
  • Local Seed Production: Establishing a local seed production facility to meet the needs of our region.
