Master’s Degree Awarded to Ms. Huda Al-Baadani in Arabic Studies
Ms. Huda Ali Ahmed Mohammed Al-Baadani was awarded a Master’s Degree in Arabic Studies with an average of excellent and a grade of (95) for her thesis titled: Preferences and Objections in Al-Muharrar fi Al-Nahw by Umar ibn Isa ibn Ismail Al-Harami (d. 702 AH): A Descriptive Syntactic Study, which was submitted to the Department of Arabic Studies, Faculty of Education – Sana’a University. The MA defense was held on Tuesday, June 30, 2026.
The MA Viva-voce Committee, which was formed based on a resolution issued by the Graduate Studies and Scientific Research Council, consisted of the following:

The thesis aimed to:
- Examine Al-Harami’s preferences and objections in the areas of declinable and indeclinable forms and morphological issues.
- Identify the principles and rules upon which he based his syntactic preferences and objections.
The study findings revealed that Al-Harami exhibited a strong inclination toward the Basran school of syntax and was not merely a transmitter of the views of earlier grammarians; rather, he possessed an independent scholarly personality characterized by critical reasoning in preference and objection. The study further showed that his methodology was founded on the four principal sources of Arabic syntax: transmitted linguistic evidence (Sama), analogy (Qiyas), consensus (Ijma), and the presumption of continuity (Istishab Al-hal). It also highlighted the nature of his reasoning in preference and objection, aimed at ensuring the compatibility of grammatical rules with eloquent Arabic usage while preserving grammatical analogy.
In light of these findings, the researcher recommended the following:
- Conducting further scholarly studies on the terminology of preference and objection among Arabic grammarians, particularly with regard to its semantics and usage.
- Undertaking a study of the morphological level in Al-Muharrar fi Al-Nahw, focusing on structure and usage.
The defense session was attended by a number of academics, researchers, students, colleagues, and the researcher’s family.
