Who We Are Vice Presidency for Postgraduate Studies and Scientific Research

The Vice Presidency for Postgraduate Studies and Scientific Research at Sana’a University oversees postgraduate programs, coordinates scientific research, supports researchers, and directs academic activities toward knowledge creation and community service. Postgraduate education at the University began in 1984 with specialized diploma programs, alongside master’s and doctoral programs in the Faculty of Science. It has since expanded to approximately 355 higher diploma, master’s, and doctoral programs across various disciplines as of mid-2026, resulting in the approval of 4,446 master’s theses and 1,156 doctoral dissertations, in addition to approximately 15,000 papers indexed in international scholarly databases and 3,323 papers published in peer-reviewed local and regional journals. The Vice Presidency carries out its responsibilities through the Postgraduate Studies Council and specialized departments and units, in coordination with colleges, departments, and scientific centers. It contributes to policy development and the updating of regulations, plans, and programs; advances academic journals; promotes international publication and research collaboration; and directs theses, dissertations, and interdisciplinary research toward national priorities and real-world challenges, guided by the principles of quality, integrity, fairness, and transparency.

The Vice Presidency is guided by a vision that regards science and knowledge as foundations for human development, service to humanity, and the advancement of civilizational independence. It seeks to prepare researchers who bring together knowledge and faith, competence and integrity, and scholarship and practice, while applying scientific research to development, policymaking, and projects that serve society. Despite challenges including limited resources, the migration of some qualified personnel, and inadequate facilities in a number of laboratories and libraries, the Vice Presidency continues to improve program quality, meet academic accreditation requirements, expand scientific collaboration, and adopt modern technologies. This website serves as an informative and interactive gateway through which students, researchers, and faculty members can access programs, regulations, forms, circulars, schedules, and scientific activities. It is also being developed into an integrated digital platform that will enable academic and administrative services and transactions to be completed and tracked electronically with ease and transparency, while supporting continuous evaluation and improvement.

Vice President for Postgraduate Studies and Scientific Research

Message from the Vice President for Academic Affairs

Dr. Hamoud Al-Ahnoumi

It is my pleasure to welcome you to this website and to express my deep appreciation for the responsibility of leading the Vice Presidency for Postgraduate Studies and Scientific Research at Sana’a University—this distinguished academic institution that has been, and will continue to be, a beacon of knowledge and learning, a home for talent and expertise, and a vital partner in serving Yemen and the nation and advancing their civilizational future. Leading this Vice Presidency is a scientific and national trust and a civilizational mission connected to the future of the University, society, the nation, and the broader community. It is rooted in our religious, ethical, and historical responsibilities. Postgraduate studies are not merely a pathway to academic degrees; they are a field for preparing scholars, thinkers, researchers, and the leaders of the envisioned faith-based civilization, generating beneficial knowledge, and building national capabilities to understand challenges and develop appropriate solutions.

Our vision of science is rooted in our faith-based identity and in the understanding that knowledge is both guidance and responsibility, and that human beings are entrusted with the stewardship of the earth to develop it in accordance with divine guidance, uphold justice, and promote human well-being and dignity. Accordingly, the purpose of scientific research extends beyond material progress toward building a faith-based civilization that unites knowledge with values, intellectual strength with noble purpose. Scientific research has become a foundation of national strength and independence. For our beloved Yemen, it is essential to achieving a dignified life and strengthening water, food, and national security, as well as advancing medicine, energy, agriculture, industry, technology, legitimate means of defense, education, administration, and public services. Postgraduate studies are the principal gateway to achieving these goals.

We take great pride in the patience, perseverance, and determination demonstrated by our researchers under conditions of limited resources and difficult circumstances. We affirm that sincere commitment, sound planning, and a genuine sense of purpose can transform challenges into opportunities for work and innovation and renew hope for a future built on dignity, strength, and self-reliance. In fulfilling our responsibility and with reliance on God, we will work to overcome difficulties, simplify procedures, expedite transactions, and address challenges in a spirit of law, justice, fairness, and facilitation, without compromising sound academic standards or fair regulations. We will also continue developing electronic services toward comprehensive digital transformation and more direct, transparent communication.

We will give particular attention to the quality of programs, theses, and dissertations and to aligning them with society’s priorities and actual needs. We will encourage interdisciplinary research and scientific teams and direct academic and research activities toward the highest objectives and most meaningful outcomes, so that scholarly work does not remain confined to library shelves but is transformed into impactful knowledge, sound policies, and practical, applicable solutions. To my fellow faculty members, I extend my sincere appreciation for your efforts in teaching, supervision, evaluation, examination, and academic review. I assure you that the Vice Presidency will support you, safeguard your professional standing, facilitate your responsibilities, and recognize your contributions. To our researchers, both men and women, I say: make your research a means of serving people and fulfilling your higher responsibilities; uphold academic integrity and rigorous methodology, and do not allow the pursuit of a degree to become detached from beneficial knowledge and meaningful impact.

The Vice Presidency will always remain open to responsible opinions, constructive proposals, and serious initiatives. Success is not achieved by any single entity; rather, it is built through the combined efforts of University leadership, colleges, departments, scientific centers, faculty members, researchers, and staff, working together in a spirit of teamwork. We ask God to help us carry this trust, guide us in serving knowledge and its people, and make Sana’a University a beacon of learning and guidance, a foundation for building a strong and prosperous Yemen, and a contributor to the advancement of our nation and the realization of its envisioned faith-based civilization.
