Department of Clinical Nutrition and Dietetics

Department Overview

The Department of Clinical Nutrition and Dietetics was established in 2020 in response to the urgent need within Yemeni society for preventive and therapeutic healthcare specialties grounded in sound scientific principles. The department is dedicated to training specialized professionals capable of diagnosing nutritional problems, developing individualized medical nutrition therapy plans for patients, and contributing to the prevention of chronic diseases such as diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, hypertension, and obesity. The significance of the department lies in its role as a vital link between basic medical sciences and clinical therapy. It produces specialists qualified to work as integral members of healthcare teams in hospitals, primary care centers, educational and research institutions, and private clinics. The academic program is based on a modern methodology that integrates theoretical knowledge with intensive practical application, including clinical training in hospitals and specialized medical centers.

To achieve leadership at both the national and regional levels in the field of clinical nutrition and dietetics, and to contribute to shaping the future of nutritional healthcare through advanced education and impactful scientific research.

Department Mission

The Department is dedicated to preparing competent specialists in Clinical Nutrition and Dietetics through distinguished, evidence-based educational and training programs to improve nutritional care for patients and address nutrition-related diseases, conducting applied research that addresses local health priorities, while providing awareness programs and consultations to the community and healthcare sectors, and demonstrating commitment to quality and innovation, as well as local and regional partnerships to advance the profession, in a manner that meets labor market needs and enhances public health in line with a sustainable national vision.

Department Aims

1. Qualifying competent specialists in Clinical Nutrition and Dietetics through evidence-based educational and training programs that equip them with the necessary clinical skills to assess nutritional status and develop treatment plans for chronic and acute diseases.
2. Improving nutritional care and addressing malnutrition-related diseases in Yemen (such as stunting, anemia, and diabetes) by applying clinical practices in accordance with quality standards, within multidisciplinary teams in hospitals and health centers.
3. Conducting applied scientific research that addresses local health priorities and disseminating the results to inform policy development and improve lifestyle patterns, while providing awareness programs and consultations to the community, health sectors, and humanitarian organizations.
4. Committing to quality, innovation, and local and regional partnerships to advance the clinical nutrition profession, build the capacities of healthcare workers, and meet labor market needs, thereby achieving sustainable development and enhancing public health in Yemen.
