Sana’a University CCTLT Organizes English Public Speaking Competition for Intermediate-Level Students on the Occasion of Prophet’s Birthday

The Community Center for Translation and Language Teaching at Sana’a University organized an academic competition in English public speaking skills (TEDx Talks) on Monday, August 24, 2026 (11 Rabi’ al-Awwal 1448 AH). The event featured 18 male and female students from intermediate levels (2A–5B), forming part of the academic and cultural activities conducted by the Center to commemorate the anniversary of the Prophet’s Birthday, under the supervision of the Language Teaching Department and the coordination of Ms. Ihab Al-Hubaishi, Department Activities Officer.
The competition aimed to develop students’ skills in English speaking, fluency, oral presentation, critical thinking, self-confidence, and public communication. This initiative aligns with the Center’s approach of integrating academic instruction with practical language application while fostering positive competition and creativity among students.
The event was attended by Prof. Ibraheem Tagaddeen, Director of the Center; Dr. Yahya Obaid, Deputy Director; Mr. Noah Shoosha, Head of the Language Teaching Department; department specialists; several instructors; and a gathering of students. In his address, the Director of the Center emphasized the importance of engaging in co-curricular activities organized alongside the Prophet’s Birthday commemorations. He noted that the competition forms an integral part of the Center’s annual student activities plan, which seeks to identify, support, and qualify student talent for university-wide and inter-university competitions across Yemen.
Participants delivered distinguished presentations covering diverse topics in personal development, technology, social issues, and education, drawing inspiration from the global TEDx format of sharing ideas worth spreading. The judging panel commended the remarkable standard demonstrated by the students in terms of contextual English usage, fluency, clarity of delivery, and audience engagement, noting that such events directly link classroom theory with practical communication.
This event falls within a diverse array of activities organized by the Center to discover student talents, enhance linguistic and communicative competencies, and elevate the quality of its academic and training programs, aiming to prepare qualified language specialists capable of competing and meeting labor market demands.
At the conclusion of the event, the Center’s administration honored the first-rank winners, Fatima Khaled Mohammed Yahya and Reham Essam Abdulaziz Al-Odaini, with certificates of appreciation and prizes. Certificates of participation were also presented to all participating students, instructors, and specialists in an interactive atmosphere reflecting the enthusiasm and excellence of the Center’s students and staff.
