Master’s Degree Awarded to Ms. Israa Taha in Orthodontics and Paediatric Dentistry

Ms. Israa Haleem Mohammed Taha was awarded a Master’s degree in the major of Orthodontics for her thesis titled, “Evaluation of the Effectiveness of Elastic Chains Versus Elastics on Maxillary Canine Retraction: A Randomized Clinical Trail,” which was submitted to the Department of Orthodontics, Paediatric, and Preventive Dentistry, Faculty of Dentistry- Sana’a University. The defense was held on Thursday, October 23, 2025.
The MA Viva-voce Committee, which was formed based on a resolution issued by the Post-Graduate Studies and Scientific Research Council, consisted of the following:

| 3 | Assoc. Prof. Rima Aqeel Al-Iryani | Main supervisor | Sana’a University | Member |
The study aimed to evaluate and compare the effectiveness of both elastic chains and elastics on maxillary canine retraction movement, angular tipping, and rotation clinically.
The study reached several findings, including:
The elastics showed superiority in the rate of bodily canine movement, its angular tipping, and its rotation angle, compared to the elastic chains.
The study concluded with several important recommendations, most notably:
- Conducting further studies to evaluate the long-term stability of both techniques over time.
- Using stainless steel ligatures to secure the archwire inside the bracket slot.
The study was examined and recommended by the MA Viva-Voce Committee for acceptance and approval. The defense was attended by a number of academics, researchers, students, and interested individuals, in addition to the candidate’s colleagues and family members.
