In the Halls of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences: The Seventh Scientific Conference of the Military Cardiac Center Kicks Off in Sana’a

The Seventh Scientific Conference of the Military Cardiac Center commenced today, Tuesday, in Sana’a, hosted by the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at Sana’a University. The conference is organized by the Ministry of Defense and the General Staff, in coordination with the Military Medical Services Division. It aims to enhance medical research and keep pace with the latest global developments in cardiology and cardiac surgery, despite the current challenges in Yemen.
Wide International Participation
The conference, held over three days at the Faculty of Medicine, brings together more than 1,000 specialists from Yemen and abroad, including international experts from Egypt, India, the United Kingdom, and Italy, participating via virtual platforms. The event serves as a platform for exchanging expertise and discussing advanced medical techniques, including:
Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation (TAVI), introduced for the first time in Yemen.
Advanced cardiac imaging and therapeutic catheterization techniques.
Implantation of pacemaker devices.
Preventive measures for heart diseases, focusing on the impact of lifestyle and nutrition on heart health.
Opening Remarks and Forward-Looking Messages
In his opening speech, the Director of the Military Cardiac Center emphasized the conference’s significance in developing Yemeni medical personnel and equipping them to handle complex cardiac cases. Meanwhile, the conference chair, Dr. Taha Al-Maimouni, highlighted how the event raises the scientific level of physicians, positively impacting the treatment of critical cases.
Professor Dr. Al-Qasim Abbas, President of Sana’a University, described the conference as a vital academic gathering, emphasizing its importance in addressing the latest advancements in cardiology and cardiac surgery—a field that directly affects public health. He added that hosting the conference reflects the university’s pioneering role in supporting scientific research and advancing medical expertise, commending the efforts invested in organizing this significant event.
Notable Medical Achievements
Dr. Waleed Al-Sharafi, Deputy Director of the Military Cardiac Center, presented the center’s achievements, noting over 421 open-heart surgeries, 4,612 diagnostic and therapeutic catheterizations, and 12,000 echocardiograms conducted since the start of 2024.

Member of the Supreme Council, Mr. Mohammed Ali, described the conference as a message of hope, showcasing Yemen’s resilience in achieving scientific progress despite the ongoing challenges. Key anticipated recommendations include:
