For First Time in Its History, Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences Crowned Champions of Sana’a University Football League

For the first time in its history, the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences team was crowned champions of the Sana’a University Football League after defeating the Faculty of Commerce and Economics 3–1 in the final match, which was held at the university’s central stadium amid a highly competitive atmosphere and notable official and public attendance.
The final match was marked by excitement and strong rivalry. The Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences asserted its dominance in the first half, ending it with a two-goal lead. In the second half, the Faculty of Commerce and Economics managed to narrow the gap by scoring its only goal, before the Faculty of Medicine sealed the victory with a third goal, maintaining the result until the final whistle to confirm its superiority and well-deserved title.
Following the match, Sana’a University Rector, Prof. Mohammed Ahmed Al-Bukhaiti, in the presence of the Rector’s Assistant for Media Affairs, Mr. Adel Al-Hababi; the Dean of the Faculty of Commerce, Prof. Hani Al-Mughallis; and the Director General of Student Activities and Youth Welfare, Mr. Abdul Qader Al-Ghurbani, awarded medals and cash prizes to the top three teams. The Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences received the gold medals and the championship trophy, while the Faculty of Commerce and Economics claimed the silver medals as runners-up. The Faculty of Computer Science secured the bronze medals after finishing third. Match officials, organizing committees, and all those involved in the tournament were also honored in recognition of their efforts in ensuring the success of the university league.
In a statement to the media, Prof. Al-Bukhaiti emphasized the university leadership’s commitment to implementing sports and youth activities alongside the academic year, foremost among them the university football league, which saw the participation of various faculties and lasted nearly two months. He noted that such activities reflect the university’s belief in its role in developing students’ skills, discovering athletic talents, and showcasing promising youth capable of strengthening national teams across different sports.
The University Rector further explained that organizing the championship falls within the university’s broader efforts to promote sports activities, support youth, and enhance their physical and athletic capabilities, commending the General Administration of Student Activities and Youth Welfare for its role in organizing the tournament and nurturing students’ sporting talents.
In turn, Mr. Abdul Qader Al-Ghurbani stated that the university football league witnessed wide participation from faculty teams and was organized according to a comprehensive technical system. The participating teams were divided into four groups, each comprising four teams. Group One included the Faculty of Commerce and Economics, Faculty of Engineering, Faculty of Mass Communication, and Faculty of Dentistry; Group Two included Faculty of Arts, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Faculty of Computer Science, and Faculty of Languages; Group Three comprised Faculty of Science, Faculty of Sharia and Law, and Faculty of Physical Education; while Group Four included Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, Faculty of Applied Medical Sciences, Faculty of Education, Faculty of Petroleum, and Faculty of Pharmacy. Teams competed in a league format before advancing to the knockout stages and ultimately the final match.
He affirmed that the tournament achieved its technical and organizational objectives, contributed to strengthening sportsmanship and fair competition among students, and noted that the General Administration of Student Activities will continue organizing annual championships and competitions in various sports in line with the directives of the university leadership and its commitment to supporting youth and sports.
