Faculty of Medicine Launches Scientific Workshop to Credit 9 Graduate Programs in Nursing Science

SANA’A, YEMEN —Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at Sana’a University, in collaboration with the University’s Academic Development and Quality Assurance Center, inaugurated a two-day scientific workshop this morning. Held under the patronage of Prof. Mohammed Ahmed Al-Bukhaiti, Sana’a University Rector, the workshop aims to review and approve nine new and updated graduate programs in nursing sciences.
The first day of the workshop focused on evaluating curricula and course specifications for master’s programs. Sessions tomorrow (Wednesday) will transition to reviewing doctoral program specifications. This academic initiative aligns with the university’s strategic plan to modernize educational pathways and meet both national and international nursing benchmarks.
Prof. Mohammed Al-Shehari, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, emphasized that the workshop marks a pivotal moment reflecting the faculty’s dedication to elevating academic outcomes.
These programs represent more than just an academic expansion; they are a qualitative leap tailored to meet evolving healthcare labor market demands,” Dean Al-Shehari stated. “Developed through meticulous scientific methodology and high-quality standards, they ensure our nursing graduates are fully equipped to drive meaningful advancements in the local and regional healthcare ecosystem.”
“The leadership of the college is committing all available resources to support these new programs, rooted in our responsibility to the community and the healthcare sector,” Al-Shehari added. “We firmly believe that nursing is a vital pillar of healthcare, and these programs will tangibly elevate the quality of medical services provided.”
Prof. Adel Ahmed Al-Mutawakel, Director of the Nursing Program, presented a detailed overview of the curriculum design and specification frameworks. He noted that today’s sessions evaluated four new master’s tracks: Nursing Services Administration, Psychiatric-Mental Health Nursing, Medical-Surgical Nursing, and Cardiovascular-Pulmonary Nursing.
Tomorrow’s agenda will cover three doctoral programs in Critical Care Nursing, Pediatric Nursing, and Medical-Surgical Nursing, alongside updating two existing master’s programs in Critical Care and Pediatrics.
The opening day featured comprehensive presentations from specialized faculty members, followed by in-depth academic panel discussions. Faculty, research experts, and representatives from leading healthcare institutions and the local labor market participated, providing critical feedback to enrich the proposed curricula.
The workshop’s opening session was attended by Prof. Ahmed Mujahed, Vice Dean for Quality Assurance; Prof. Arwa Othman, Vice Dean for Student Affairs; Dr. Abdullatif Abu Taleb, Director of Kuwait University Hospital; Prof Mohammed Abdullah Khalil, Director of Research and Studies at the Ministry of Health; and Dr. Muneer Saleh Al-Azzani, representing the University’s Academic Development and Quality Assurance Center.
The workshop will conclude tomorrow following the official review of the doctoral programs, with final curriculum specifications being submitted to relevant academic boards for formal accreditation.
