Sana’a University Faculty of Medicine Council Convenes First Session of Academic Year 2026–2027, Approves Key Academic and Research Decisions

SANA’A, YEMEN — June 22, 2026 — The Council of Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at Sana’a University held its first regular meeting today for the academic year 1448 AH (2026–2027). The session was chaired by the Faculty Dean, Prof. Mohammed Al-Shehari, and attended by the vice deans and chairs of the various scientific departments.
During this inaugural session, the Council discussed several academic and educational files on its agenda, focusing on two main strategic pillars: elevating teaching and research performance, and reviewing academic program structures alongside postgraduate study policies.
Following a rigorous review of legal procedures and official endorsements from departmental councils and specialized committees, the Council ratified a series of administrative decisions. These included faculty career advancements, adjustments to tenure-track statuses, and the confirmation of full-time academic appointments for graduate teaching assistants (demonstrators).
The Council also officially approved the graduation and examination results for both undergraduate and postgraduate students from the previous academic year (1447 AH / 2025–2026), followed by an extensive discussion on reinforcing quality assurance benchmarks across the medical faculty.
In a major push for research development, the Council approved new research proposals submitted by postgraduate students, officially renewing and endorsing master’s and doctoral dissertation plans. This endorsement extended to candidates in the Doctor of Medicine (MD) clinical residency programs across several medical specialties, in accordance with recommendations from departmental boards and the Postgraduate Studies Committee.
Additionally, the Council approved the final defense results of theses and dissertations for several graduate students after verifying that all rigorous scientific standards, peer reviews, and formal validations had been fully satisfied.
The meeting concluded with a review of the remaining items on the agenda, the issuance of necessary institutional recommendations, and the formal ratification of the minutes from the previous year’s 11th council session.
