Sana’a University Faculty of Medicine Drives Forward International Accreditation Efforts

Sana’a: Saturday, November 8, 2025 AD, corresponding to 17 Jumada al-Awwal 1447 AH.
An expanded meeting was held today at the Faculty of Medicine, Sana’a University, to accelerate the completion of requirements for international academic accreditation from the World Federation for Medical Education (WFME). The meeting was chaired by the University Rector, Prof. Mohammed Ahmed Al-Bukhaiti, and included the Faculty Dean, Prof. Mohammed Al-Shehari, the University Secretary-General, Mr. Iskandar Al-Maqaleh, Vice Deans, Dr. Anwar Al-Mughallis and Dr. Ahmed Mujahed, and National Quality Expert, Prof. Saleh Bahaj.
The meeting was dedicated to reviewing progress toward WFME standards and discussing the recent recommendations from the Faculty Quality Committee. During the meeting, participants reviewed technical and academic reports from specialized committees concerning service, technical, and educational infrastructure. The recommendations were approved following thorough discussion and endorsement by Rector Al-Bukhaiti. In addition, Prof. Al-Bukhaiti stressed the urgent need to accelerate the implementation of all pending requirements in the shortest possible time. He affirmed that the University is fully committed to providing necessary support, recognizing the Faculty of Medicine as a foremost academic and service institution in Yemen. The Rector also specifically directed the Secretary-General and the Technical Committee to expedite ongoing rehabilitation and renovation work. This includes modernizing educational and service facilities and completing the Pathology Museum and specialized laboratories with state-of-the-art equipment that meets international standards. The National Quality Expert Prof. Saleh Bahaj presented a detailed overview of the significant progress achieved, noting advancements in academic documentation, curriculum updates, and the enhancement of the learning and research environment. He emphasized that this cooperation is a strategic partnership aimed at elevating medical education in Yemen to meet global standards. Furthermore, Dean Prof. Mohammed Al-Shehari highlighted that obtaining WFME accreditation is a strategic goal and a defining stage in the Faculty’s history, representing not just an administrative achievement, but an international validation of academic quality and staff competence. The Faculty is updating curricula, enhancing faculty professional development, and modernizing facilities through a spirit of teamwork and close coordination with the University leadership.
The meeting concluded with an agreement to assign specialized committees and working teams to follow up on the implementation of the recommendations and monitor progress weekly, ensuring all accreditation requirements are met within the specified timeframe.
