In an important medical achievement, a team of doctors performed the first heart valve implantation procedure in Yemen using advanced surgical techniques without the need for traditional open-heart surgery. This procedure was led by Dr. Taha Al-Maimoni, Professor of Cardiology and Catheterization at the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at Sana’a University .
This successful procedure was carried out at the Heart Center of the Military Hospital, marking a significant milestone in the development of healthcare in Yemen. Patients can now access this type of advanced service within the country, rather than having to travel abroad, which saves time and costs .
The technique used, known as Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation (TAVI), allows for the implantation of the aortic heart valve through a catheter instead of open-heart surgery. This technique is less risky and requires a shorter recovery period for the patient, making it a suitable option for elderly patients and those with high-risk health conditions .
This achievement reflects the progress that has been made in healthcare in Yemen and opens the door for more advanced medical interventions. It also helps Yemeni doctors continue to develop and innovate in the field of healthcare in the country .
