International Day of Hearing Celebration”
Faculty of Medicine & Health Sciences Sana’a- University Celebrates World Hearing Day
As part of the ongoing efforts to raise public awareness about hearing health and the importance of early detection of hearing loss, the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences in collaboration with the Ear, Nose, and Throat Association, celebrated World Hearing Day.
The celebration included various awareness and educational activities targeting the local community, especially children and parents. Specialists in the field of ear, nose, and throat delivered informative lectures on the importance of early detection of hearing loss and audiometric tests. The event also highlighted the significance of newborn hearing screening and the importance of monitoring children’s hearing during their developmental stages.
Emphasis was also placed on the dangers of exposure to loud noises and its negative and serious impact on hearing, including sensorineural hearing loss resulting from it. The event shed light on modern diagnostic and treatment methods available in such cases, including hearing aids and corrective surgeries.
In light of this important event, the relevant healthcare, education, and awareness organizations issued the following recommendations to the government and supporting entities:
- Enhance awareness and education programs about hearing loss and the importance of early detection, through hearing screening in healthcare units, hospitals, and schools for newborns and students.
- Provide the necessary resources to offer hearing tests and screening for newborns and individuals with special needs.
- Strengthen legislation and policies that protect individuals from exposure to loud noises in public places and work environments.
- Provide continuous training for doctors, nurses, and specialists in the field of ear, nose, and throat to enhance their abilities in early identification of hearing problems and providing appropriate care, particularly cochlear implantation
- Promote scientific research in the field of hearing health and develop and improve modern diagnostic and treatment methods for hearing loss and its disorders.
These recommendations reflect the commitment of the relevant entities to enhance hearing care and improve the quality of life for individuals affected by hearing problems. It is expected that these efforts will provide better opportunities for early detection of hearing loss and early intervention and treatment for affected individuals.
The University of Sana’a and the Ear, Nose, and Throat Association have provided an excellent example of collaboration between the academic and professional sectors in promoting awareness and providing appropriate hearing care.
The celebration was attended by several officials, the Dean of Medicine and Health Sciences, the Head of the Department, President of the association of ENT, local associations, and the World Health Organization.
