Master’s Degree Awarded to Researcher Jamil Ahmed Mohammed Abdullah in the Department of Microbiology, Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences
Researcher Jamil Ahmed Mohammed Abdullah was awarded a Master’s degree in Medical Microbiology from the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at Sana’a University for his thesis titled:
“Seroprevalence of Hepatitis B Virus among Patients with Solid Tumors in Sana’a City, Yemen.”
The defense took place on Sunday, 27th Jumada al-Akhirah 1446 AH, corresponding to December 29, 2024.
The examination and judgment committee comprised:
1. Professor Anwar Qasim Al-Madhhaji – Supervisor and Chair.
2. Dr. Roa Mohammed Al-Sayaghi – Internal Examiner and Committee Chair.
3. Dr. Ahmed Saif Muharram – External Examiner and Committee Member.
The research aimed to determine the seroprevalence of hepatitis B virus (HBV) among patients with solid tumors in Sana’a City. The study revealed several key findings, including:
The overall seroprevalence rate of HBV was 5% among patients with solid tumors.
The most affected age group was patients over 55 years old.
Breast cancer patients had the highest prevalence, followed by patients with lymphoma.
The researcher provided several recommendations, including:
Developing specific guidelines for HBV screening in cancer patients.
Performing comprehensive HBV marker tests before initiating chemotherapy or radiotherapy to prevent viral reactivation or mutations in HBV carriers.
The defense was attended by a number of academics, researchers, students, interested individuals, colleagues of the researcher, and members of his family.
