Sana’a University’s Faculty of Mass Communication Concludes Workshop on Doctoral Program Updates
Sana’a, Yemen – The Faculty of Mass Communication at Sana’a University concluded its second and final scientific workshop today, Wednesday, approving updated doctoral programs across its departments: Journalism and Electronic Publishing, Radio and Television, and Public Relations and Advertising. This initiative aligns with the faculty’s strategic plan to develop academic programs, curricula, and course syllabi, aiming for academic and media excellence.
Prof. Mohammed Al-Bukhaiti, Rector of Sana’a University, emphasized in his opening remarks that the successful update of doctoral programs in these departments, alongside master’s, diploma, and bachelor’s programs, represents a significant achievement for the faculty and its staff. He hailed it as a qualitative leap towards scientific and academic distinction. Dr. Al-Bukhaiti commended the dedication and teamwork of the faculty’s deanship, professors, and staff, urging everyone to continue working collaboratively with loyalty and devotion in service of the nation and the university, while upholding religious and ethical values.
Dr. Huda Al-Emad, Assistant Rector of the University for Postgraduate Studies and Dean of the Academic Development and Quality Assurance Center, stated that the Faculty of Mass Communication is recognized as one of the best faculties in completing program descriptions and specialization plans. She stressed the importance of continuous effort and excellence to enhance the quality of the faculty’s and its departments’ outputs, aligning them with labor market demands and sustainable development goals.
Dr. Omar Da’er, Dean of the Faculty, explained that the approval of these doctoral program updates in the three departments followed a meticulous scientific review of previous programs. This process involved a select group of academics and specialists to ensure that the program outcomes are abreast of technological and media transformations, contributing to the development of media practice and scientific research in Yemen and the region. He noted that through this step, the faculty aims to strengthen its academic standing and graduate researchers equipped with critical thinking and digital analysis tools. Dr. Da’er affirmed the faculty’s commitment to enhancing partnerships with media and professional institutions to realize its vision of becoming a leading scientific platform in modern media education.
Dr. Hussein Jaghman, Vice Dean for Academic Affairs and Postgraduate Studies, highlighted that the updates are based on a scientific vision and conform to Arab and international academic reference standards. He emphasized that these updates consider the needs of the labor market and developments in the media field, ensuring the graduation of research competencies capable of robust scientific production and engagement with the challenges of the digital age.
Dr. Mahdi Haidar, Vice Dean for Quality and Academic Development, confirmed that the update process for the doctoral programs in Journalism and Electronic Publishing, Radio and Television, and Public Relations and Advertising, underscores the faculty’s commitment to enhancing academic quality standards and institutional accreditation. He pointed out that the faculty is working to align its programs with national and regional standards, while also incorporating feedback from academics, students, experts, and employers to ensure the programs meet the needs of the academic and professional communities.
During the workshop, the final documents for the Journalism and Electronic Publishing program, prepared by Professor Dr. Ali Al-Ammar, Head of the Department, and Dr. Abdo Al-Akwa’, Assistant Professor of Digital Communication and Investigative Narrative, were reviewed and approved. Also approved were the Public Relations and Advertising program, prepared by Dr. Omer Abrain, Associate Professor of Public Relations, and the Radio and Television program, prepared by Dr. Nawal Al-Hazoura, Associate Professor of Radio and Television. The documents were enriched with observations from the attending professors.
The workshop was attended by Professor Dr. Aref Al-Hammadi, Vice Dean of the Academic Development and Quality Assurance Center at the university; Dr. Munaser Al-Sabari, representative of the center; Professor Dr. Mohammed Al-Faqih, Head of the Radio and Television Department; Dr. Abdulrahim Al-Shawari, Head of the Public Relations and Advertising Department; and several faculty members including Prof. Fouad Saadan, Prof. Saleh Hamid, Dr. Hatem Al-Salehi, and Dr. Jamal Sailan.
It is worth noting that the faculty has completed the description of all bachelor’s, diploma, master’s, and doctoral programs across all its scientific departments.
