Sana’a University’s Translation Department Celebrates First Master’s Thesis Defense

The Department of Translation at the Faculty of Languages, Sana’a University, reached a historic milestone with the successful defense of its first-ever Master’s thesis. The candidate Elham Mohammed Abdo Ghaleb presented her study titled: “Challenges of Translating Conceptual Metaphors in Economic Texts from English into Arabic by Senior Translation Students at the Faculty of Languages, Sana’a University.”
During the defense held on December 30, 2025, the Viva-Voce Committee praised the candidate’s exceptional presentation, rigorous analytical methodology, and scholarly depth. The candidate was awarded her Master’s degree with an average of (Excellent) and a grade of (95%). Furthermore, the committee recommended the publication and distribution of the thesis among universities and research centers, recognizing its significant contribution to the field of applied translation studies and the study of conceptual metaphors.
Following the proceedings, Dr. Mujeeb Qasem, Head of the Translation Department, received a copy of the thesis in the presence of distinguished faculty members. Dr. Qasem commended the student’s dedication and academic excellence since she joined the program in July 2024. He also extended his gratitude to the thesis supervisor, Prof. Abdulhameed Al-Shuja’a, for his instrumental role in guiding the researcher and ensuring the work met high academic standards.
This achievement marks a pivotal moment for the department’s graduate program, reflecting its success in cultivating qualified researchers capable of advancing scientific inquiry and serving the academic community both locally and regionally.
