Program Aims
- Providing students with opportunities to engage with a range of Translation & Inter-Cultural courses, fostering the development of their academic and professional skills and interests within the fields of Translation.
- Enhancing students’ awareness and understanding of the nature, uses and varieties of both Arabic and English Languages, along with the wider contexts of contrastive and comparative linguistic studies.
- Developing students’ skills in close reading, literary analysis and their ability to communicate clearly and effectively in both English and Arabic orally and in writing form.
- Fostering students’ understanding of both English and Arabic culture and history.
- Offering students the skills, theoretical concepts and empirical knowledge needed to engage with, evaluate and analyze their translated material in everyday and institutional contexts.
- Empowering students to achieve a level of proficiency in both languages (English & Arabic) in all aspects of linguistics and culture.
- Enabling students to develop competence in key transferable meanings between the two languages (English & Arabic)
Program Mission
To produce well-prepared graduates with essential professional knowledge and skills in translation within a stimulating learning environment enriched by modern technology, enabling them to effectively compete for employment opportunities in both the private and public sectors.
Graduate Attributes:
A graduate holding a Bachelor’s Degree in Translation from the Faculty of Languages should demonstrate the following attributes:
1. Proficient in both specialization languages, including reading, writing, and speaking.
2. Able to differentiate between fundamental concepts in language, literature, and translation studies.
3. Able to use the specialization language, incorporating all four skills across diverse professional contexts..
4. Capable to analyze and critique texts in both source and target languages in an academic and professional manner.
5. Able to communicate skillfully in both written and verbal forms.
6. Able to translate various types of texts (political, scientific, economic, etc.) accurately and faithfully.
7. Proficient in producing innovative and scholarly research papers, adhering to the principles of academic honesty and research integrity.
8. Capable to apply and employ specialized knowledge in professional practice within relevant fields.
9. Proficient in using computers and technological applications to remain abreast of modern scientific and technical developments in translation-related applications.
10. Able to engage positively with diverse cultures while upholding religious, cultural, and social values.
11. Ready to assume ethical, academic, and professional responsibilities within the field of translation.
12. Able to use knowledge for the holistic development of society.
13. Able to compete effectively at regional and local levels in relevant domains.
