Sana’a University Veterinary Students Gain Hands-on Experience at Rusaba Dairy Farm

As part of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine’s summer practicum at Sana’a University, students completed their first week of intensive field training at Rusaba Dairy Farm. The program is designed to bridge the gap between classroom theory and clinical practice, offering students a deep dive into the management of large-scale dairy operations.
During the initial phase of the training, students were introduced to the farm’s integrated administrative and technical frameworks. The curriculum focused on modern bovine husbandry, focusing on the critical relationship between specialized nutrition programs and high-yield milk production. Participants examined feed management systems and the implementation of essential health and preventive protocols.
A significant portion of the field visit was dedicated to clinical veterinary care. Under the guidance of specialized faculty, students conducted on-site assessments, including:
– Housing and Biosecurity: Evaluating stall systems and environmental hygiene.
– Preventive Medicine: Observing vaccination schedules and parasite control programs.
– Clinical Diagnostics: Performing physical exams and identifying common bovine pathologies, such as mastitis, gastrointestinal disorders, and hoof health issues.
The training also provided students with direct exposure to modern milking technologies. They practiced industry-standard sanitation and sterilization procedures, following the production line from udder preparation and machine operation to the final collection and storage of milk in advanced cooling units.
“This field rotation is essential for developing the next generation of veterinary professionals,” stated the program supervisors. “By engaging with real-world challenges at a facility like Rusaba, our students gain the technical proficiency and confidence required for the competitive agricultural sector.”
The summer training program continues under the close supervision of the Faculty’s academic staff and the Dean’s office, reaffirming Sana’a University’s commitment to providing world-class, applied education in veterinary sciences.
