SANA’A – February 16, 2026
The Faculty of Agriculture, Food, and Environment at Sana’a University held a graduation ceremony today for participants of the Dairy Production Localization Program. This strategic initiative was implemented by the General Authority for Small and Micro Enterprise Development (GASMED) and funded by the Agricultural and Fisheries Projects and Initiatives Funding Unit in the Capital Secretariat (Sana’a), aiming to empower youth within the food industrial sector.
The ceremony honored students and graduates who successfully completed technical and administrative training modules. The project focuses on building knowledge-based models to strengthen the domestic dairy sector by bridging the gap between academic research and local market demands.
In his keynote address, Dr. Adel Al-Weshali, Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, emphasized that the faculty remains a primary incubator for qualified professionals in the agricultural sector. He highlighted the vital importance of ongoing cooperation between the university and development authorities to foster sustainable development and achieve food self-sufficiency.
Mr. Ahmed Al-Kebsi, Chairman of GASMED, expressed the Authority’s readiness to support graduation research and postgraduate studies (Master’s and PhD) focused on the dairy sector. He also pledged to provide the laboratory equipment necessary to enhance the dairy value chain. “We are working on future projects to ensure graduates either integrate into the labor market or launch their own enterprises,” Al-Kebsi stated, praising the partnership with Sana’a University leadership in supporting the national economy.
Dr. Mustafa Ateef, Director of Investment at the Agricultural and Fisheries Funding Unit, underscored the dairy sector’s role in narrowing the gap between local production and consumption. He stressed the necessity of intensifying efforts to achieve self-reliance and reduce the national import bill for dairy products.
Speaking on behalf of the participants, graduate Bishara Al-Ariqi expressed gratitude to both the Authority and the Faculty for involving students in economic development plans. She noted that such initiatives empower graduates to play an active role in community service.
The event concluded with the distribution of certificates of achievement to the participants, marking a successful milestone in the collaboration between the Faculty and development institutions.
