A Seminar for the Master’s Thesis Proposal: Biochar for Soil Improvement and Wheat Crop Productivity
Sana’a, Yemen – On Saturday, Muharram 3, 1447 Hijri, corresponding to June 28, 2025, the Department of Land, Water, and Environment at the Faculty of Agriculture, Food, and Environment – Sana’a University, hosted a public seminar session for the master’s thesis research proposal submitted by Mr. Faisal Ali Mohammed Al-Yateem.
The proposed thesis is titled: “Effect of Biochar Prepared from Waste of Mango Kernel and Maize Cobs on the Chemical and Physical Properties of Soil and Wheat Crop Productivity.”
The research plan highlighted the critical importance of wheat as a strategic crop and the challenges faced by local production given significant reliance on imports, emphasizing the growing food gap. The proposal underscored the potential of utilizing agricultural waste to produce biochar, which can then be used as a soil amendment. This innovative approach is expected to positively impact the soil’s chemical and physical properties and, consequently, increase wheat crop productivity.
The session featured an intensive academic discussion among department members and the Scientific Integrity Committee. During this session, several observations and recommendations were provided to enhance the quality of the research plan and ensure its alignment with scientific research standards.
The session was attended by several faculty members from the college, the Director General of Scientific Research at the university, and postgraduate students. The interactive scientific atmosphere reaffirmed the university’s commitment to encouraging applied research that supports the agricultural sector and environmental sustainability.
