Field Visit to the General Directorate of Plant Protection: A Practical Experience in Agricultural Fieldwork

Third-level students of the Department of Plant Protection embarked on an educational field visit to the General Directorate of Plant Protection (GDPP). The primary objective of the visit was to enhance the practical aspect of their studies and link theoretical concepts with real-world applications.
This visit provided students with a crucial opportunity to observe the national efforts being made to protect agricultural crops and ensure food safety. They were introduced to specialized, integrated departments dedicated to safeguarding the agricultural environment.
Students were welcomed by officials who provided a comprehensive explanation of the Directorate’s role in monitoring and controlling agricultural pests, and regulating the use of pesticides according to safety standards. Students showed great interest standards. Students showed great interest in the activities and initiatives presented, which reflect the national commitment to protecting agricultural wealth.
Students visited the lab and observed the advanced equipment used to detect pesticide residues. They learned about the critical importance of these analyses in consumer protection and ensuring the quality of export-ready products.
The students were briefed on the department’s programs aimed at improving crop productivity, applying modern agricultural techniques, and providing technical and extension support to farmers. This highlighted the progress made in adopting sustainable agricultural practices.
Students were introduced to the evaluation mechanism, which assesses the effectiveness of pesticides against pests, along with their environmental and health impacts. They also learned about the procedures for registering and licensing pesticide use.
At the end of the visit, the students expressed their admiration for the advanced technical level they witnessed. They confirmed that this field experience significantly contributed to enhancing their practical understanding and expanding their professional horizons, marking a vital step in preparing them as qualified professionals in the field of Plant Protection.
