Proposal by Abdqadir al Kawkabani:
Abdulqader’s research, titled “Scars of the Past, Seeds of the Future,” delves into the profound impact of childhood trauma on identity formation in Chinua Achebe’s Things Fall Apart. This novel serves as a poignant exploration of how early experiences of loss, cultural dislocation, and familial expectations shape the protagonist Okonkwo’s identity and actions. By examining the intricate interplay between personal trauma and broader sociocultural dynamics, he aims to reveal how Achebe illustrates the lasting scars of the past that inform present identities and future destinies. This study will analyze key moments in Okonkwo’s childhood, emphasizing how these experiences not only forge his character but also reflect the collective trauma of a society undergoing colonial upheaval. Ultimately, this research contributes to a deeper understanding of identity in postcolonial literature, underscoring the crucial relationship between past experiences and the ongoing struggle for self-definition in a changing world.
