Academic Departments

The Faculty includes three academic departments.

Department of Medicinal, Analytical, and Pharmaceutical Organic Chemistry

The Department of Medicinal, Pharmaceutical Organic, and Analytical Chemistry plays a pivotal role in drug discovery and development. By bridging fundamental chemistry with pharmacology and other biochemical sciences, the department enables the design of novel therapeutic agents and the synthesis of pharmaceutical substances. It also focuses on analyzing raw materials, pharmaceutical substances, and therapeutic agents—of both natural and synthetic origins—while ensuring the stability, safety, and quality of pharmaceutical products.

Department of Pharmaceutics

The Department of Pharmaceutics focuses on the theoretical and practical study of the physicochemical properties of drug formulation components and their impact on the efficacy of the resulting pharmaceutical products. The department also covers the formulation methods of various sterile and non-sterile dosage forms (solids, semi-solids, and liquids) across community pharmacy, hospital, and industrial manufacturing scales.

Department of Pharmacognosy

The Department of Pharmacognosy is one of the core scientific departments in the Faculty of Pharmacy, operating in accordance with the curriculum guidelines for Yemeni faculties of pharmacy approved by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research. The department oversees the theoretical, practical, and training components of various courses across all academic years, including Pharmacognosy I & II, Phytochemistry I & II, and Applied Pharmacognosy (Herbal Medicine, and Complementary and Alternative Medicine - CAM).
