Discussion of Graduation Research Proposals by Prosthetics and Orthotics Students at the Faculty of Applied Medical Sciences
The Faculty of Applied Medical Sciences at Sana’a University organized a distinguished scientific session to discuss the graduation research proposals of fourth-year students in the Prosthetics and Orthotics Program, with the participation of a select group of academics and international experts. This is the first discussion of its kind in Yemen to focus on the study of mobility impairments resulting from above-knee amputations and to analyze their social, economic, and psychological impact on individuals and their families, in addition to exploring innovative solutions that are compatible with environmental needs and the local context.
The session was chaired by the Dean of the Faculty, Professor Dr. Khaled Al-Khamesy, who emphasized that these graduation projects are not merely academic exercises but humanitarian initiatives capable of transforming the lives of thousands of Yemeni families. A representative from the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) praised the Yemeni efforts, stating that “these studies will serve as a valuable reference for countries facing similar challenges.”
The discussion was also attended by Professor Dr. Abdulkarim Al-Obaidi, Dr. Ahmed Al-Shahdhi, and Mr. Yasser Al-Emad, Coordinator of the Prosthetics and Orthotics Program, along with a specialist from the ICRC
