PhD Degree Awarded to Researcher Abdulwahab Abdulhamid Mohammed Saif in Business Administration

Researcher Abdulwahab Abdulhamid Mohammed Saif was awarded a PhD degree in Business Administration by the Center of Business Administration for Graduate Studies at Sana’a University for his dissertation titled: “The Impact of Supply Chain Management Practices on Competitive Manufacturing Priorities Through Information Technology: A Field Study of Industrial Companies of Hayel Saeed Anam & Co. – Yemen.” The dissertation was supervised by Prof. Dr. Mohammed Noman Mohammed Aqlan.
The PhD Viva-Voce Committee consisted of Prof. Dr. Abdullah Abdullah Al-Sanfi, Sana’a University, as Internal Examiner and Chair; Prof. Dr. Khalil Saeed Al-Wajeeh, Dhamar University, as External Examiner and Member; and Prof. Dr. Sinan Ghaleb Al-Marhadi, Sana’a University, as Member and representative of the Supervisor.
The study aimed to examine the impact of Supply Chain Management practices, including supplier relationships, customer relationships, internal processes, and information sharing, on competitive manufacturing priorities through Information Technology, represented by hardware and equipment, human resources, and software. It also sought to determine the levels of Supply Chain Management implementation, Information Technology implementation, and achievement of competitive manufacturing priorities in the industrial companies of Hayel Saeed Anam & Co.
The study targeted all employees in the senior and middle management levels of the industrial companies under investigation. The study population consisted of 326 employees, who were all surveyed. A total of 308 questionnaires were retrieved, of which 301 were valid for statistical analysis. The study adopted a descriptive-analytical approach and used a questionnaire as the primary data collection instrument. The data were statistically analyzed using SPSS 24, while Structural Equation Modeling was conducted using AMOS 24.
The findings revealed a partial mediating role of Information Technology in the relationship between Supply Chain Management practices and competitive manufacturing priorities in the industrial companies under study. The findings also indicated a high level of attention to the implementation of Supply Chain Management practices. Customer relationships ranked highest in terms of implementation, while supplier relationships ranked lowest.
The findings further showed a high level of attention to the implementation of Information Technology across all its dimensions. Hardware and equipment ranked highest in implementation, whereas software ranked lowest. The results also indicated a high level of achievement of competitive manufacturing priorities, with quality ranking highest and cost ranking lowest.
The study recommended strengthening attention to all dimensions of Supply Chain Management in the industrial companies under study to achieve a more integrated and sustainable supply chain. It also recommended supporting and strengthening strategic partnerships with suppliers by establishing clear communication channels and performance-based evaluation mechanisms to improve the effectiveness of supplier relationships.
The study further recommended continuing to strengthen Information Technology infrastructure by adopting advanced digital tools that support faster and more accurate decision-making, as well as increasing investment in software development and updating systems in line with industrial operational requirements to enhance integration and operational efficiency.
The study also emphasized the importance of strengthening integration among the four competitive manufacturing priorities—cost, quality, flexibility, and delivery—through balanced strategies that achieve an optimal balance between cost reduction and maintaining quality, while investing in operational flexibility and improving delivery speed and efficiency. Such measures would enhance the organizational and strategic maturity of the industrial companies and strengthen their ability to compete and respond sustainably to market requirements.
The dissertation defense was attended by a number of academics, researchers, postgraduate students, and other interested individuals, in addition to the researcher’s colleagues and family members.
